What is your reason for wanting an internet based business? Is it the flexibility of working at your own pace, on your time, and at the location that you choose? Is it the substantial income that many online marketers boast about?
Before you start any business, especially one that is based on the internet, you absolutely must determine what is the reason you’re doing it in the first place. Here’s the biggest reason…
…without knowing your why (the reason you want your business), then you will never stick to the hows to get what you want out of your business.
You see, internet marketing is a fantastic way to create a business. It’s not a business in itself, rather its a means to get your business in the face of those that will buy from you on the internet. You need a product or service that you can promote on the internet. But internet marketing is not the actual business. You, and the value you provide, is the actual business.
However, as with anything, there is a process that must be done in order to have something of value to offer of which people will gladly spend money on.
That’s where the why comes in. If you haven’t identified your why, then you will not have anything meaningful to hold you to the process of achieving your dream business when the going gets tough. There are many steps to have a successful online business, and here’s just a few of them:
- Determine the market that you’ll be serving (and if they are willing to spend money on products that you are going to offer).
- Research what they’re already buying and see what those offers look like so you can make something different and better.
- Finding your audience by using blogs, forums, social communities to start observing what they’re talking about and what their greatest needs and desires are.
- Structuring your offer whether its someone else’s product that you’re going to promote (affiliate products) or a product that you already have or will develop.
- Creating a simple 3 page website in order to get their name and email addresses, confirm their subscription, and offer them your products or the affiliate product.
- Drive traffic to your website with nearly hundreds of different ways ranging from short term traffic like Pay-Per-Click or long term traffic like article marketing and from free methods like blogging to paid methods like banner and ad marketing.
- Build a relationship with your email list through adding additional value before, during, and after the purchases that they make from you. You can also offer them other complimentary products as you move on with them.
As you can see, there are many steps that will be needed in order to get your business online but when you know your WHY, then you know you’re moving towards something far greater than the upfront effort that it takes you to build the business in the first place.
Your WHY will keep you on track and will shift your attention when you’re being side tracked.
